NEW WRITING WEEK 2018 – PATH TO THE STAGE: SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN!
Following the success of our Discovering New Voices event in 2017, our annual new writing week returns. We are seeking exciting, dynamic new voices for inclusion in a series of performed readings taking place in September, between the closing of the Dublin Fringe Festival and the opening of the Dublin Theatre Festival. These readings will be performed in the round in our rehearsal room for an intimate, up-close experience generating maximum audience engagement.
WHAT IS NEW WRITING WEEK?
New Writing Week is an annual week of readings of new plays and short scenes. Over the course of 3 days, we will showcase at least 6 writers through the reading of one full length play and one supporting scene.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
If you are a playwright who has never been commissioned but has had work staged, we want to hear from you. Send us a full length script of at least 45 minutes length (no extracts), along with a synopsis and biography.
If you are a new playwright who does have a completed script we also want to hear from you! Send us a scene of approximately 15 minutes length. Some scenes will be read before the main playreading.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for fresh and exciting voices, original ideas and engaging themes. We would really like to see contemporary work and are only looking for historical plays if they are significantly relevant to our time.
WHAT WE OFFER
Selected writers will be paid a stipend for their time during the week and will receive feedback from our New Play Dramaturg Pamela McQueen and audience members.
One of the featured plays will be brought to full production by The New Theatre and the playwright will receive dramaturgical support from Pamela McQueen to develop their script.

Deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday June 22nd 2018. Successful writers will be announced on 19th July 2018. Due to the volume of scripts we receive we are unable to respond to every submission received. Successful writers will be contacted before the announcement date.
