New Writing Week – December 2022

May 17th, 2022

NEW WRITING WEEK 2022 – SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN.
Following the success of our New Writing event in 2021, our now annual New Writing Week will take place in December 2022. We are seeking new play writing voices for inclusion in a series of performed readings, which will take place on The New Theatre stage.

These new play readings will be read live by professional actors to a live audience. Post reading audience engagement will be encouraged.

WHAT IS NEW WRITING WEEK?
New Writing week is an annual event which will be held early December in The New Theatre (TNT) 43, Essex Street, Dublin 2.

Selected writers will gain an opportunity to showcase their play in a professional environment, with a full-length performed reading by professional actors in front of a live audience.

CRITERIA

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for emerging and mid-career Playwrights to send us full-length scripts. Scripts must be at least 55 minutes in reading time, 45 pages minimum to 70 pages maximum in length. For each script our cast size is limited to 4 actors/characters.

Should we receive a play that stipulates a cast of 5 +, this play will not proceed. We have to work within our stage size and budget.

Please note: A 150 word descriptive synopsis and a 100 word writers biography should be attached with your script. Please submit everything in PDF format.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for fresh voices, original ideas, and engaging themes. Historical plays will be considered. TNT embraces diversity and inclusion and welcome plays that deal with this area.

WHAT WE OFFER
Selected writers will receive critical analysis feedback from our panel of dramaturgs and fellow artists.
A panel of professional actors led by a director will read your play in front of a live audience.

Audience members will be encouraged to give anonymous feedback through tailored written and on-site feedback forms.

Should your play go forward for production in The New Theatre, the playwright will receive free dramaturgical support from TNT to further develop their script as well as free development space in which to write.

HOW TO APPLY
Please send us your script as a PDF with a synopsis and biography to tntnewwriting2022@gmail.com with the subject;

‘New Writing Week 2022’. One email with all documents attached to a maximum of 8MB.
PLEASE only send one email per script.

Due to the high volume of scripts we receive, we are unable to respond or engage with the writer on every script received. Writers selected will be contacted before the announcement date at the end of September 2022.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you every success with your submission.
