Presented by The Dublin Region Touring Theatre Company

In a battle of wits, Vinnie McCabe, playing Da and Noni Stapleton as Mona, combine together to produce a father and daughter explosive confrontation where sacred cows and family secrets are dramatically exposed, before a fragile peace is finally restored.

The Noble Call, by Michael Harnett is an emotional roller coaster where Da, a man described as a troublesome know-it-all meets his match in Mona, his daughter, a strong willed divorced mother of twins.
In a battle of wits Mona, after discovering a family secret confronts and challenges Da, and he, after repeatedly denying any knowledge, finally admits to the painful truth.
Given that Da is seriously ill, and the secret discovered is a huge challenge to the father and daughter relationship, this is a seriously poignant drama which, by turns, is heartbreaking yet very humorous.

First produced at the Five Lamps Festival earlier this year, the Noble Call saw the welcome return of Vinnie McCabe to the Dublin stage, joining Noni Stapleton in a combined performance which was described as a ‘beautifully played, thoroughly enriching theatrical experience.’

Reviews

  • “a searching and important new Irish play. Addressing the vital issues of age related illness, family tensions and secrets it presents serious dilemmas in startling and amusing fashion. Uniquely, Irish, Dublin indeed, but with universal themes, …a skillfully written, beautifully played, thoroughly enriching theatrical experience.”
