The New Theatre Presents the Irish Premiere of When Rachel Met Fiona by Colette Cullen

The course of true love never did run smooth!

Rachel and Fiona agree they met at a book group but not on the book they were reading or why Rachel gave Fiona a lift home or where they ate their chips en route. But Rachel did kiss Fiona, got her number and then never called. A year later they bump into each other….

WHEN RACHEL MET FIONA is a funny, fast-paced play that explores a relationship over time with complexity, honesty and humour.  At its core is a love story that features a lesbian couple who are neither idolised nor criticised but are rather shown in their many colours.

Nominated for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize 2022.

Reviews

  • ‘beautifully, charmingly presented… When Rachel Met Fiona is a treat’

    -- The Sunday Independent
  • ‘Golden’s first class direction and two riveting performances from McLaughlin and Dargan-Reid ensuring a terrifically enjoyable experience. If they’d any sense, Netflix should pick up this option. Along with signing it’s director and cast.’ ****

    -- The Arts Review
  • ‘The characters themselves are beautifully complex, written with a natural friction familiar to anyone who’s been in a long-term relationship’

    -- THE REVIEWS HUB
  • ‘An intimate portrayal of a tender and loving relationship. As an audience you completely believe in the characters of Rachel and Fiona’

    -- Dress Circle Reviews
  • ‘There is still far too little on stage which explores the realities for LGBTQIA+ people and WHEN RACHEL MET FIONA does this beautifully.’

    -- ATHESBIANSVIEW
  • ‘The focus is on the intimate life of Rachel and Fiona, but of course the strength of the piece is that it explores the weft and weave of close relationships in general.’

    -- NO MORE WORKHORSE
