It is May 2021. The intercountry travel ban has been lifted and Ireland is on the move. Brid, Catriona and Nuala, one time school friends, now middle aged, have arranged to meet at Nuala’s house for a trip down memory lane, only Nuala fails to appear, a stranger turns up
on a bicycle and memory lane becomes a dark cul-de-sac all wish to exit. Esmeralda is a play about the power of choice in women’s lives and the powerlessness of women when faced with choice. It is a play about motherhood, mothering and motherlessness and of course there’s Esmeralda, never seen, never heard; no more than a word whispered repeatedly by Catriona……..
Directed by Caroline FitzGerald
Performed by Rose Henderson, Brid McCarthy, and Fiona Condon.
