As part of The New Theatre’s New Writing Development, we are excited to present a free reading of The Wake (A Play for the Dead) by Thomas O’Donoghue. Join us on January 27th at 7pm for this free presentation.
Following the death of their father “Big Jim”, the agnate Martin siblings (Bernie, Mick & Oisin), along with Jim’s closest friend Gerry, reconvene on Dublin’s North Strand to attend the rogue bachelor’s wake. Recounting tales of past glories the family endeavour to give their dearest father a traditional and fitting send off; but as time passes and the drink begins to flow, bottled memories begin to bubble as swallowed truths finally erupt to challenge their apparent and polished recollections of Big Jim.
