The New Theatre is committed to providing a platform for new writers
The New Theatre is interested in new Irish writers or writers based in Ireland and Northern Ireland, with a strong, original voice, and plays with striking themes.
We support these writers in a number of ways:
The New Theatre Play Readings
We regularly organise play readings of new scripts and invite industry professionals, fellow artists, and members of the public to attend and provide feedback. Public entry to the event is free and donation based. Working with anonymous feedback forms and the experience of our New Writing Development team, we offer advice to the writer on the development of their script.
New Writing Development Week:
The New Theatre selects the best scripts received to be read at our week long run of rehearsed play readings. Following this, we provide feedback on the script, discuss feedback analysis, and advise the writers on the best steps for the development of their play. The submissions portal for New Writing Development Week opens around April each year.
New Writing Development Productions:
Should a play be particularly strong, and TNT feel it is ready for production, we will guide the writer and assist them with getting their play into full production. Many of the plays that have graced our stage began their life as a play reading. Learn more about our past productions in our archive.
