NEW WRITING WEEK 2020 – SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN!

Following the success of our PATH TO THE STAGE event in 2019, our annual New Writing Week returns in November 2020. We are seeking dynamic new voices for inclusion in a series of performed readings taking place on The New Theatre stage in November. These readings will be performed on our stage, generating maximum audience engagement.

WHAT IS NEW WRITING WEEK?

New Writing Week is an annual week of live readings of new plays. Over the course of the week in early November, TNT will showcase selected writers through the reading of full-length plays with a professional cast and crew.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for Playwrights to send unpublished, unperformed, full-length scripts.
Submissions are open to emerging and established Writers.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for fresh voices, original ideas and engaging themes. Historical plays will only be considered if they are significantly relevant to our time eg. stories about people who led the way forward post the Spanish flu in 1918 and Irish Independence.
We are looking for a script with a cast size of 2, 3 or 4 performers. We are only interested in one person shows where this format provides for an innovative and clear angle or hook to attract audiences.
Scripts must be at least 50 minutes in reading time, 45 pages minimum to 70 pages maximum in length. 150 word description synopsis and 100 word writer biography should be attached with your script. We can only accept one play submission per person.

WHAT WE OFFER

Selected writers will be paid a stipend for their time during NW week and will receive critical analysis feedback from our panel of dramaturgs and fellow artists. Audience members will be encouraged to give anonymous feedback through tailored written feedback forms.

Should your play go forward for production in The New Theatre, the playwright will receive dramaturgical support from TNT to further develop their script.

HOW TO APPLY

Send us your PDF script with a synopsis and biography to TNT2020scripts@gmail.com with the subject ‘New Writing Week 2020’. One email with all documents attached. PLEASE do not send us several emails.

Due to the high volume of scripts we receive, we are unable to respond or engage with the writer on every script received. Writers selected will be contacted before the announcement date.

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you every success with your submission.

This Initiative is funded by The Arts Council, Dublin City Council, Dublin City of literature UNESCO and Friends of The New Theatre.
